Platinum Jubilee Celebrations
During the evening of Saturday 5 June, Connaught Lodge celebrated Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. A wide variety of food was cooked by Master Chef W. Bro Tony Cooper with the bar ably manned by Bro. Paul Charlton; with grateful thanks to them both for making it such an enjoyable party.
The main purpose of the evening was to unveil a new portrait of the Queen and accompanying commemorative plaque that were specifically commissioned to mark the Jubilee. This was unveiled by the Lodge’s newest member, Bro. Neil Sunderland and by W. Bro Colin Lunt, the Lodge’s most senior Past Master. This was followed by the Loyal Toast, a rousing three cheers and the singing of the National Anthem.
A donation of £500 was then made to the Radstock Scout Group to help repair the damage and install improved security systems following the recent vandalism to their premises. The cheque was received by siblings Cub Connie and Scout Quinn Hutchinson, accompanied by their Scout Leaders Dave and Janet Turner.
In recognition of W. Bro Colin’s extensive service as the Lodge Charity Steward, at his request in preference to tangible gifts, he was presented with a cheque for £500 by the Worshipful Master for Natasha’s Fund, which benefits the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the RUH Bath. This fund was set up by the family in memory of Colin’s grand-daughter who died in 2006 within hours of her birth.
